We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and Mark our trainee teacher aide, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Term 3 Week 6

Above is the whakatauki we have been learning and sharing for August. The kupu o te wiki for last week was pene hinu meaning crayon. Next week's kupu is pene whitau meaning felt tip.

This week we have been busy starting to learn about telling the time to the hour and half hour.

We also came up with a new way to practice our spelling.
Don't forget to pop into class and take a look at our calendar art up in the entrance area.

To see some more of the wacky things we got up to this week , sit back and enjoy this week's Photopeach slide show.

Term 3 Week 3, 4 and 5

Kia ora and welcome to a somewhat delayed blog posting. However, you are in for a treat as you scroll down and look through a selection of things we have been up to over the last few weeks.

We have been busy working on our calendar art dinosaurs. Check some of them out on our Kidzstuff blog, the link is on the right hand side of this blog near the top. Some pictures still need finishing off owing to so many friends being ill last week.

We were very proud to have won the Kowhai Te Reo week competition for our video of counting to ten on Maori. You can check it out on the week 2 blog post. Here are some of the sports and craft goodies that we won!

In maths we have been continuing our work on Time with Sam. We made a timeline for our school day...
...and a very long paper chain made up of days of the week.
We practiced our basic facts to 5, 10 and 20 using playing cards and dice.

On a wet Thursday, when No Child Left Inside had to be cancelled, we wrote thank you letters to Jane letting her know our favourite games that she plays with us outside.

In literacy we have been learning about final sounds in words....
...and adding to our list of words we know by sight.
We ended week 5 by making dinosaur footprint fossils with our Room 5 buddies using the special stone effect salt dough that we made in Discovery Time.
